Mahler held a 2-1 edge going into the bottom of the ninth inning when the Padres quickly struck for two runs to decide the game in favor of the host Friars. Rick Camp was on in relief but never nailed down the save as Ruppert Jones led off the inning with a double and scored on a Terry Kennedy single to center. Game 3
Braves at Padres,
Veterans Rick Wise and Gaylord Perry matched up in the last game of the series. It appeared that both starters were headed to early showers when Perry was rocked for 6 runs in the top of the first inning and Wise surrendered 3 in his half of the inning. Perry was lifted in the first and the Atlanta bullpen pitched wonderfully the rest of the game. Wise held on for 6 innings and was relieved by Gary Lucas, who pitched the final 3 innings of 1 hit ball for the save. The big hit in the game was a 3-run homerun by Juan Bonilla in the first inning. After the combined 9 runs scored in the first inning, no runs were scored for either team the remainder of the way. San Diego completed the 3 game sweep with a 6-3 victory. --submitted by Joey Scigliano--
